In December 2014, Amel Ben Griche, District Commissioner for Brownies, attended an international Free Being Me training at Pax Lodge. Since then her and her team have been rolling out the programme in Tunisia, training leaders in Free Being Me, and taking the opportunity in regional and national events and camps to spread the Free Being Me message.
To date more than 500 girls and boys have done the programme, and more than 1,000 extra lives have been reached through the Take Action project. (Remember when a girl or boy takes part in Free Being Me they reach at least two of their friends by taking action!)
Amel talks about what attracted her about the Free Being Me programme: ‘I was interested in this topic because for me Guiding and Scouting is very important in building self-esteem, especially in children. For my Member Organisation, it is important to have this conversation on body image, and to encourage children to express themselves freely.’
